8th NOVEMBER 2020

INTRODUCTION  by Revd David Grundy

We come today to worship Almighty God, to give thanks for our deliverance in times of war and danger,  to remember with deep gratitude the courage, devotion and example of those who laid down their lives in the service of others and to commend to God all who suffer in bereavement, disability or pain as the result of war. We also today renew our commitment to work for reconciliation between nations, that all people may together live in freedom, justice and peace.

Eternal Father, strong to save

A prayer led by David, following which the names of the fallen are read by Bob Andrews.

Let us remember before God, and command to his sure keeping, those who have died for their country in war, those whom we knew and whose memory we treasure, and all who have lived and died in the service of mankind. Amen.

Please respond to the following words
read by
Michael Maughan.

They shall grow not old as we that are left grow old:

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning

We will remember them.

All: We will remember them.

Michael Maughan reads THE KOHIMA EPITAPH

When you go home, tell them of us and say:

“for your tomorrow, we gave our today”.

PRAYERS  Led by Deirdre Lay

Let us join with Liz and Francis, saying

Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory,

for ever and ever.
