SELF-SERVICE for SUNDAY, 26th JULY 2020
ORDER OF SERVICE
SUNDAY, 26th JULY 2020
The following is closely based upon the service of Holy Communion that is taking place in church at 10 o'clock on Sunday 26th July, to which all are extremely welcome.
HYMN Click and join in:
Lord our God,
In our sin we have avoided your call.
Our love for you is like a morning cloud,
Like the dew that goes away early.
Have mercy on us;
Deliver us from judgment;
Bind up our wounds and revive us;
In Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Join members of the choir to sing the GLORIA :
God appears to Solomon in a dream
Jennie reads 1 Kings 3: 5 - 12
HYMN The theme of this morning’s service is ‘wisdom’. Peter Essex has chosen this next hymn, which we will just ‘say’ in the church service, because of its very appropriate words:
Happy the man that finds the grace,
The blessing of God’s chosen race,
The wisdom coming from above,
The faith that sweetly works by love.
Wisdom divine! Who tells the price
Of wisdom’s costly merchandise;
Wisdom to silver we prefer,
And gold is dross compared to her.
Happy the man who wisdom gains,
Thrice happy who his Guest retains!
He owns, and shall for ever own,
Wisdom, and Christ, and Heaven are one.
Jesus uses parables to describe the kingdom of heaven
Francis reads Matthew 13: 31 - 33, 44 - 52
SERMON Preached by Judith:
PRAYERS Led by Martha
HYMN Click and listen or join in with this South African church choir singing:
Seek ye first the kingdom of God
Jesus, in the same night that he was betrayed, took bread and gave you thanks;
He broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying
“Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of me.”
In the same way, after supper he took the cup and gave you thanks; he gave it to them, saying
“Drink this, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me”
Let us join with Martha, saying THE LORD'S PRAYER:
Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory,
for ever and ever.

May the peace of God, which passes all understanding,
Keep your hearts and minds in the knowledge and love of God,
And of His Son, Jesus Christ.
And the blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, be with us now and remain with us always.
